Ingredients
  • 1 cup warm whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3½ cups bread flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1½ teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp NN raw honey
  • ⅓ cup sugar (honey glaze)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (honey glaze)
  • 1 tbsp NN raw honey (honey glaze)
  • 1 egg white (honey glaze)
  • 4 tbsp Chia Seeds

Steps:

Making the Dough:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and honey. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the mixture and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the mixture, one cup at a time, stirring well after each addition.
  4. Once the dough starts to come together, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

 

Shaping and Baking:

  1. Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a floured surface.
  2. Divide the dough into small portions and shape each portion into a ball. You can make the rolls as large or as small as you prefer.
  3. Grease a baking pan or skillet and arrange the dough balls in the pan, leaving a little space between each.
  4. Cover the pan with a kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.

 

Making the Honey Glaze:

  1. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and honey together over low heat, stirring until well combined.

 

Finishing the Rolls:

  1. As soon as the rolls come out of the oven, brush them with the honey glaze while they are still warm.
  2. Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving.
